My eldest sister has basically taken on the task of having the Christmas family dinner at her place, while others have been taking turns holding the Thanksgiving dinner and festivities at their homes, which so far has worked out fairly well.

For all my of eldest sister’s hard work I always try and buy her a present that she really likes and needs and will utilize instead of just some junky gift that was purchased with little or no thought involved. So I have been looking at some nice plus size clothing online, trying to find her something that she will be able to wear to church on Sunday mornings. She takes a lot of pride in her hair, make-up and her clothes so I have to be careful to make sure that my choice is spot on, and returnable if needed.

But I couldn’t find anyone who didn’t already have plans to go catch a movie with me. Even my friend Mack had plans – a date with someone new. He was very mysterious about the date and I thought he might be making the whole thing up!

But when I pressed him a bit, he admitted that she is someone he met on a chat for Jewish singles and this was their first date. His family is very religious and meeting Jewish Women is important to him but it can be a challenge locally. Turns out he has been talking to her online for a couple of weeks and finally made plans to meet up in person.

]]> http://toddbenatar.com/2009/03/30/jewish-singles/feed/ 0 The traveling ministers http://toddbenatar.com/2008/11/22/the-traveling-ministers/ http://toddbenatar.com/2008/11/22/the-traveling-ministers/#comments Sat, 22 Nov 2008 22:36:21 +0000 Todd http://toddbenatar.com/?p=11 I’m not big on going to church; but I am a spiritual person.  I will say that prayer hasn’t helped me much, though.  I’ve been getting annoyed at the frequent visits by certain religious groups that come knocking on my door wanting to convert me to their own religions.  I don’t feel right pushing my religious beliefs on anyone else, and I really don’t appreciate other people trying to push their beliefs on mine.  Don’t get me wrong, the people are polite and passive enough, but just getting up to answer the door to find someone who wants to bear witness to me about their religion is a very aggravating thing.  Although not as annoying as the people wearing orange sheets selling carnations at airports used to be!  I do wish their religions would alter their ministry methods, I find their methods quite intrusive.

]]> http://toddbenatar.com/2008/11/22/the-traveling-ministers/feed/ 0 Afghan villagers kill two Taliban http://toddbenatar.com/2008/07/10/afghan-villagers-kill-two-taliban/ http://toddbenatar.com/2008/07/10/afghan-villagers-kill-two-taliban/#comments Thu, 10 Jul 2008 11:23:53 +0000 Todd http://toddbenatar.com/?p=18 I was surprised to read on the Time website that some Afghan villagers actually stood up to the Taliban and killed a few of them.  According to the story, the villagers had invited some aid workers to come to their village to dig a well.  While the aid workers were in the process of digging the well, some Taliban militants came along and tried to abduct the aid workers.  According to the culture of the people, you cannot invite guests to your village to help you with something and then allow the Taliban to come along and abduct and behead them, so the villagers defended the workers. 

The skirmish resulted in two of the Taliban being killed and the rest of the militants ran off into the countryside.  The government has sent additional security forces to the village to protect the village from retaliation from the Taliban.  I wonder how long those security forces will be there.  Seems to me that they’ll have to be there forever and a day because as soon as they leave, the Taliban will be right there slaughtering the entire village!
