I’m thinking about putting in a windmill and some solar panels to try to generate some of my own energy to cut down on electricity costs.  It’s hard to find ways to conserve energy when you are running a farm!  I’ve been reading articles on the Internet about how different plants like algae can be used to create biofuel instead of using corn (which I think is a great idea) and how many areas of the country are looking into wind farms and solar farms, too.  I think that all of these areas are good investments into the energy futures of the country.

To be honest I had no idea that investors play such a key role in the price of oil that we have become so dependent on in our daily lives. Millions of investors are buying and selling oil contracts and the whole thing sounds like a whole lot of extreme risks that should be left to the experts and not the novice trader. So with that in mind, I’m glad I found this site (Daytradingcenter.net)that gave me such insight on this issue that is so controversy and complicated and I would urge anyone to give it a read and find out for themselves what this oil business is all about. Very enlightening indeed.

It has deteriorated so badly the last decade or so that it was becoming a safety hazard and an eye sore for way too long. I know that there has been a lot of cut backs but something like this just can’t be left to rot for heaven’s sake.

I hear that they have ordered new playground equipment for the kids to play on as well as new Park Benches and Picnic Tables as well for families to us and enjoy. I am assuming that they will be using the new rubberized playground equipment which is so much than the old wooden equipment that was used back in my day. Can’t tell you how many splinters we all got from that junky old rotten wood. Today’s kids don’t know how good they have it, I can tell you that!

They plan on having everything ready, good to go for next spring. We will see if they manage to hit that target date or not.

After weeks of dealing with the temperature being in the high 90′s and the 100′s, these past couple of days in the 80′s are just awesome. As I’m getting older it is becoming harder to deal with such extreme weather, but at least we are not dealing with tornadoes, hurricanes and all the other extreme weather that seems to be devastating so much of our country these past couple of months. We did have to deal with way too much rain this past Spring, but at least it is better than not having enough rain, which has happened too often lately. Without rain a farm like mine can go into ruins real quick like.

Last night I actually had some free time that I got to enjoy outside before hitting the sack. This is something that I don’t get to do very often as an adult. As kids we would spend a lot of time on the front porch and in the front yard, catching fireflies, playing Kick The Can, Hide and Seek, and roasting marshmallows and making those wonderful S’mores with tons of chocolate dripping all down our arms. It sucks that youth and wasted on the young.

When I think of mulch, rubber is the last thing that comes to my mind. But apparently there is a new fangled type of mulch that is being manufactured out of old tires by a company called Rubberecycle. This is the same company that provided the White House with the playground that the Obama’s daughters and their lucky play mates get to play on. I’m assuming that when a new president moves into the White House that the playground will stay right where it is, but who knows what the future will bring when that takes place when all of that comes about. But for now it is good to know that the Obamas are doing their part in going green in numerous ways that are all good to know about.

This particluar company offers several products that are long lasting, safe and extremely environment friendly, not to mention economical. I would urge anyone to check out their website of rubberecycle.com and see all that they are about. If I had kids and was looking into having a playground for them to enjoy I would certainly be interested in having this company come out and see what they could come up with for them. We all want our kids to spend time outside having fun, but safety is a big concern, right? The numbers are startling when it comes to injuries that occur on playgrounds all across the country, nothing new really, just more media attention is taking place on the subject these days. I know that I would feel like a real dog if one of my kids or one of their friends or another member of family’s kid got hurt on something that I paid for and allowed them to play on. So it sounds like this rubber mulch is the way to go folks, if you have the need.

The mosquitoes are particularly thick and ferocious. I cannot step off my porch after 4:00 in the afternoon without being attacked by a swarm of mosquitoes.

Today I found a bunch of japanese beetles all over the roses. I picked off mosf them but will have to check the roses every day now so they don’t get eaten up by the beetles.

The spiders have become very prolific, too. There were spider webs in all the shrubs and I even saw one big Black Widow crawling through the grass toward a tree. I had to kill that one – they are poisonous and hard to get rid of.

Times like these I wish we had more birds and snakes around the house to  eat and help eliminate all these bugs.

Cleaning and Restoration businesses have been experiencing a very good profitable year, and I hear that there is now a shortage of carpet drying fans austin texas area and these companies are scrambling for any type of fan that will help them during this extremely busy rainy season. This was the big topic of conversation at the Barber Shop early this morning. I couldn’t take another day of having my hair too long with the heat hitting us all ready this spring.

I’ve never seen one before, although I’ve heard the term “chains rain” before. But as I was mindlessly surfing the net earlier this evening I was looking at some rain barrels that would come in handy around here, when I came across a site that sells the most wonderful looking rain chains. My mother would have loved the umbrella one and my old man would have really enjoyed the fish rain chain, both of which I’ve posted a picture of below so you can see how cool these babies are.

Since we didn’t have much snow this winter we are being told that we can look forward to another summer that we have to watch our water supply and possibly have to comply with mandatory water restrictions like we have had to do on and off for the past decade or so.

Right now we may be sick of all the rain, but it is helping with some water issues that are literally right around the corner.

It cost me $84 to fill up the tank in the “Farm Use Only” pick up truck that I had to drive to town in order to run some errands that needed tending to before the weekend began. This isn’t getting any better any time soon, I’m afraid. With the coming of spring and summer we go through a lot of gas around this place, this isn’t sounding promising at all folks.
